2. Overview

This privacy policy informs you in accordance with Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) about the processing of personal data on this website.

3. Hosting

This website is hosted by Host Europe GmbH (Strasbourg, France, EU). When you visit the website, the web server automatically records the following data in server log files:

  • IP address of the accessing device
  • Date and time of access
  • Name and URL of the requested page
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Status of the request (successful or not)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Referrer URL (previously visited page)

Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the technical provision and security of the website). Server log files are automatically deleted after 14 days.

The hosting provider processes data on our behalf within the European Union. No data is transferred to third countries.

4. Contact

Contact Form

When you use the contact form on this website, the following data is collected and sent to me by email:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Subject
  • Message
  • Language of the page you used
  • Time of submission
  • Origin information: the page you submitted the form from, the page you visited before that (referrer), and any campaign parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content) present in the address of that page

The origin information is used solely to understand which content on this website leads to enquiries. Your IP address and browser identifier (user agent) are not included in the email.

The email is sent via Mailjet (Mailjet SAS, 13-13bis Rue de l’Aubrac, 75012 Paris, France). Mailjet processes the data you enter in the form as a processor, on servers within the European Union.

Protection against automated submissions

The contact form is protected by a proof-of-work puzzle (ALTCHA) solved in your browser. No data is sent to any third party for this; verification happens on this website’s own server. The number of submissions per sender is also limited. For that, your IP address is stored only as an irreversible hash and deleted after at most one hour. The IP address itself is not stored. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in preventing abuse).

This data is used exclusively to process your enquiry. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries).

Your data will be deleted after your enquiry has been fully processed, unless statutory retention obligations apply (e.g. tax retention periods of 7 years pursuant to § 132 of the Austrian Federal Fiscal Code / BAO).

Email Contact

If you contact us by email, your details including the contact information you provide will be stored for the purpose of processing your enquiry. Email communication is handled via Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd., One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland). Microsoft processes data under its Data Processing Agreement within the EU. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.

Appointment Booking

The “Book a call” button takes you to a booking page operated by Flexibits Inc. (USA, “Fantastical Openings” service). The booking page is an external website; no data is transferred until you click the link. When you book, the following data is collected:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Selected time slot
  • Your answers to the questions about your request and where we met (optional)

This data is used exclusively to arrange and hold the call and is added to my calendar. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures). Flexibits processes the data on servers in the USA; the transfer is safeguarded by the EU Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). The appointment is deleted after the call unless a business relationship follows. If you prefer not to send data to a US provider, you can reach me at any time via the contact form or by email.

5. Web Analytics with PostHog

This website uses PostHog, a product analytics platform provided by PostHog Inc. Event data is stored and processed on servers within the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with PostHog. PostHog Inc is based in the USA, and the analytics library is delivered through a content delivery network with locations worldwide. Where access from a third country occurs, it is safeguarded by the EU Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).

PostHog is operated on this website without cookies. It stores neither cookies nor data in your browser. To count visits without recognising you, PostHog derives a check value on its own servers from your IP address, your browser identifier, the domain name and a random value that changes daily and is deleted once that day is processed. The check value cannot be reversed. It lets your page views count as one visit within a single day. Beyond that day there is no recognition, and none across devices either. What this website does store locally is set out in section 6.

The following data is processed:

  • Pages visited and time of visit
  • Click events and page navigation
  • Time spent on pages
  • Referring page (referrer)
  • Browser and operating system
  • Device type and screen resolution
  • Country (derived from anonymised IP address)

Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in statistical analysis to improve the website). Event data is routed through a first-party subdomain and processed directly on PostHog servers within the EU. You may object to this processing at any time; contact details are in section 1. A content blocker in your browser also prevents collection entirely.

6. Cookies and local storage

This website sets no cookies. None for analytics, none for advertising, and none that are strictly necessary either. No cookie banner is therefore required.

Some features store values in your browser’s local storage. These stay on your device, are not sent to the server automatically, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings:

The legal basis for these two keys is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in not showing a notice again after you have closed it). Both are written only after you close the notice in question, and serve no purpose other than respecting that. This is functional storage within the meaning of section 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021, for which consent is not required.

7. SSL/TLS Encryption

For security reasons, this website uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the lock icon in your browser’s address bar and the “https://” prefix in the URL.

8. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR): You may request information about your stored personal data.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You may request the correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You may request the deletion of your data, provided no statutory retention obligations apply.
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR): You may request the restriction of processing of your data.
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You may request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): You may object to data processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR at any time.
